Fellow Dane lovers,

I hope this page will be a valuable resource to all. I’ve simply put links to health-related issues in a, hopefully, easy to find format.

Purple Flowers

Rescue is my passion, and there are many health issues with our beloved breed, so here they are, read the information, study it carefully, read more, discuss your opinion with your vet, but be aware that ultimately you, and only you are responsible for this precious life.

This information is presented to help you make an informed decision on issues like “The great vaccination debate” and “Barf vs. retail food”; also to inform on the SYMPTOMS of diseases like HOD and Wobblers. NONE of the information on any of these pages is meant to replace Vet care, simply supplement it.

Having said that, I added training because I believe emotional health and physical health are so closely linked. A well trained dog is, I believe, more confident, more relaxed, and knowing it’s status in the “Family pack” and learning house rules makes him a treasured family member that can be relied upon and trusted, and hopefully, never seen in a rescue situation.

I have to insert my personal opinion here, these training pages have a wealth of important information, but I’ve also noted some controversial issues, and I have to stress, on the pages that contain information about it, NEVER “alpha roll” your dog, be it Dane or Dachshund, NEVER, NEVER! This is for professional trainers ONLY, and even they are starting to discontinue its use.

My dogs LOVE clicker training, and it’s fun for me, too. I also know where to get clickers inexpensively, if you can’t find them.

Thanks for stopping by, if you’ve been here recently, hit the refresh button; we’re constantly updating, and enjoy your Dane!

Hugs and puppy breath, Dee
